STREATOR – Streator’s plan commission will consider amending zoning ordinances to allow burial vault manufactures to expand. At Tuesday night’s plan commission meeting, owners of Schultz Wilbert Vault requested that the city allow them to purchase a gas station lot at 404 Bloomington Street at have it rezoned to build offices for their three companies and also service a crematory. City Engineer Jeremy Palm says Streator’s code only allows for crematory services in an industrial district, however modernization has made it easier to operate in a commercial district. Commissioners agreed to table the recommendation to make a code amendment and grant a special use permit by next month.
